Description and itinerary
The Alpujarras, is the area to the south side of Sierra Nevada looking to the Mediterranean sea. It has remained untouched by time in part because of its difficult access until not a long time ago.
Come with us to discover three of the most beautiful and charming villages of this area, we guarantee you that you will fall in love with this unspoiled part of Andalusia.
We will pick you up at 9:00 am at your accommodation and we will drive about one hour and half through the mountains. It’s a curvy road but well worth it, just relax and enjoy the stunning views while our guide explains the history of this area that once was home to some of the last Muslims communities in Andalusia.
Our first stop is in Capileira, a gorgeous village with 500 inhabitants, the largest and the highest of the three villages we are going to visit. We will explore all the beautiful corners of this village, the steep streets, the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza and the breathtaking views of the Barranco de Poqueira.
The second village we will visit is called Bubión and its located between Capileira and Pampaneira, just below the mountains of Sierra Nevada. A great place to admire the narrow streets, the white washed houses with flowery balconies and the local crafts.
Lastly, after 10 minutes driving we will visit Pampaneira, a small picturesque village with a pretty square with a 16 th century Mudejar Church, lots of handicraft shops and several local bars.
We will have some free time to enjoy the gastronomy of this particular area and you will have the chance to taste the famous Serrano ham cured in these mountains, Migas Alpujarreñas and for the most greedy, the Plato Alpujarreño made of blood sausage, black pudding, pork loin, potatoes and fried eggs.
A fantastic day trip to one of the Andalusia’s best kept secrets, a wonderful land of sunshine, snowy mountains and amazing scenery. Don’t miss it!
