Description and itinerary
Wheat, grapes and olives are the essential elements that constitute the true Mediterranean diet so we have designed a culinary experience that includes all these three elements to get you closer to our culture, customs, and gastronomy.
We will pick you up at your accommodation around 9:30 am and we will drive to Arenas, a small white village located in the mountains of the Axarquia. The main crops here are olives, almonds and vines.
We will visit a local bakery and we will learn how to make a traditional Pan Cateto (rustic bread) in a wood fire oven, and we will bake our own!
While our bread is cooked in the oven, the baker will also show us how to make the delicious roscos de vino (wine rolls), one of the most typical sweets in Andalusia.
Once we have our bread and roscos ready we will take them with us in our visit to an olive oil factory where we will have the opportunity to try our freshly baked bread with the delicious local olive oil, so important in the mediterranean diet for the numerous health benefits and its extraordinary flavor.
Lastly we will taste a local moscatel wine and a traditional tapa in the local restaurant, an excellent way to discover the ancients traditions and understand why the Mediterranean diet is recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

FAQ
What are the “roscos de vino” like?
The roscos de vino are a sweet in the shape of a doughnut, in other words, round with a hole in the middle. They are called like this because wine (“vino in spanish) is one of the ingredients. It is a very traditional spanish sweet, specially in Málaga and La Mancha regions.
Can we buy sweets, bread, wine and/or olive oil during the tour?
Of course! You will have the chance to buy any of these local products.
