Description and itinerary
This is a very special tour to learn about our agriculture, traditions and history by visiting a beautiful area with lovely views and landscapes and unspoiled villages.
Muscatel raisins of the Axarquia are characterized by their large size and intense sweetness. On this tour you will enter the deep Axarquia and learn first hand the secrets of this delicacy.
Our first stop will be a typical wine press (lagar) surrounded by vineyards, where we will explain how the different native grape varieties are grown. You will learn how the families who produce Muscat raisins live and you will even be able to see the grapes in the traditional drying tents. You can also try chopping some raisins to understand how laborious this ancient task is.
Next, we will visit El Borge, in the heart of the raisin route. We will see its beautiful streets and references to this crop, which is the main source of income for this town.
The next stop will be Almáchar, the capital of Muscatel raisins and the highlight of our route. We will visit its beautiful streets and the Raisin Museum, where we will learn more about the product and see ancient tools that were used to harvest and prepare them.
Finally, we will visit Moclinejo, a small, humble village surrounded by mountains that you will fall in love with. In this beautiful village, we will have lunch at one of the best restaurants in the area.

On 29th September, I took the Raisin Tour with Ole Trips. We visited an Andalusian cortijo owned by the lovely Mano and Mari.
We saw a traditional raisin production system – which was very interesting to see and learn about all the hard work which goes into the production of the raisins (…)
Our final stop was Moclinejo. It really was a fantastic day out (…) I also met some lovely people on the trip. Thank you Ole Trips and Cipriano for a wonderful experience.

Today I went on the Raisin Tour with a couple of friends, the tour guide and one other.
We visited the raisin terraces and was told how raisins are produced. I now understand how difficult the whole process is. We visited the raisin museum and church in Almáchar.
I particularly loved El Borge (…). Very relaxed tour with a great tour guide.
Many thanks Ole Trips

Well worth doing this tour as an alternative day out. We enjoyed the day learning about the Raisins, the history of farming and visiting the towns that are proud to be a part of the Raisin and Muscat wine heritage.
Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and made the tour relaxed and enjoyable.

The muscatel raisin was crucial in the region and had a great economic impact. The nineteenth century was the peak of the industry, with more than 13,000 tons per year exported to other countries.
