Description and itinerary
Málaga isn’t just coast, it is also one of the areas in Spain with more mountains, and the villages up there are quite different from the ones you see by the coast.
Join us and discover four of the most picturesque and unknown white villages in the Axarquia area with an expert local guide who will take you into our Moorish history. All the villages are within easy driving distance of each other, so it’s a perfect way to make the most of the day!
Our first stop is Árchez, one of the smallest and prettiest villages in the Axarquía. We will stroll through its charming narrow streets admiring the popular architecture that evokes the Moorish past of this village.
Just 6 minutes by car we will reach our second stop, Canillas de Albaida, less than 3 km from Árchez. We will see the main sights and stop in the main square to enjoy a coffee surrounded by white houses with colourful flowered balconies and the old village church.
We will then visit Salares, a charming white village and the smallest one of the Axarquia. We will learn about the village’s past, from Roman times through the Moorish occupation to the Christians.
Finally, in the beautiful village of Sayalonga, we will stop for a delicious lunch in one of the best restaurants of the area and stroll through its streets, including one famous for being the narrowest in Andalusia.
Once you arrive back at your accommodation and after having visited amazing places such as the minarets of Salares and Árchez and having learned so much about our Moorish history, you will have understood a little more about our present and past.

One of the best tours I have ever taken.
Cipriano is a very congenial and knowledgeable guide who makes history come alive. He is an excellent driver and his vehicle is immaculate.
The small group tour allowed us to visit sites in the small white villages that most tourists would never see. The drive through the mountains was breathtaking. Lunch, in a typical Spanish restaurant, was delicious. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful time on this tour of white villages.
The tour was for a small group of 5 people, which was great because it was easier to interact with the guide, Cipriano, and have more individual attention. Cipriano is a fantastic guide, his knowledge of the area is extensive and delivered with true passion.
The villages were all very pretty, but Salares was by far my favourite. A lovely lunch was included as well. Would not hesitate to book another trip with Cipriano. 👍😎

FAQ
Why are they called white villages?
They are called white villages because of the color of their houses, buildings and architectural elements. Originally, the white color was due to the lime used to paint the facades, although nowadays normal white paint is used.
Do I have to walk a lot in this tour?
No, these villages are not too big but there are some steep streets since they are located in the mountains. Anyway since we travel in small groups our guides will take their time and adapt the tour as much as possible to your needs.
Why do these villages have Moorish Architecture?
Because many of them where founded by the Moors and it was the golden time of this area and the villages haven’t changed that much.
What are Tapas?
Tapas are small portions of Spanish traditional dishes. You will be able to try different dishes during the lunch.
